Yeah, but so did Farscape.

Yet I don't remember FS fandom having even a fraction of the crack that LoM fandom has.

And in Highlander, there are several offshoots of canon that are total crack (the second movie; the latest movie...) - yet again, no significant crack presence in the fandom.
