We're counterbalancing the angst in the show, obviously.
Also, this is a show that had a puppet sequence, in what was, to MG's mind, 'not SF'.
Plus, I think there is a lot of angst, it's just of certain concentrations. And I am really glad the fandom has a sense of humour.
