I'm not a total slash-o-phobe. ;-) I've been known to 'commit' slash myself (one Harry Potter story - Sirius/Remus -, and one WiP in that same fandom, with the same pairing). It just doesn't really do much for me per se, and Sam/Gene, in particular, I can only 'buy' in very specific circumstances.
