The source is a pretty cool, very recent British show called 'Life On Mars' about a police detective who is hit by a car and wakes up in 1973, 33 years in the past. An American remake is already being planned, but I'd recommend the original. ;-)

I used the 'A' lines of the lyrics for the guy's life in the present, and the 'B' lines as well as the chorus for his life in 1973. Oh, and for all the 'time slips away' lines I used scenes in which he is in some way being threatened by death. Hope that helps to clear things up a bit.
